Life of a Mompreneur: Meetings, Marketing and Throw-up
Launching a business from home while you are in the trenches of mommyhood is a wild ride. It is exciting to use your grown-up brain again — even if it is just for a few hours a day. Learning new skills like social media marketing (Can I use Snapchat for marketing or is it just something for 20-something sexting?) has been amazing. And revisiting old skills (I was a direct mail wizard…is that still a thing?) has been a real eye-opener. I’ve relished diving back into the working world, but even though I work from home is seems IMPOSSIBLE to balance everything out. I never have what I need most…TIME!
This week I had a whole day planned out to rock my to do list, and get a ton done. But, after spending a night covered in throw-up from my one year old, I instead spent the morning in the doctors’ office and the afternoon cleaning up more throw-up. I posted something on my Madison Avenue Mommy business page during nap, however in my exhausted haze, who knows what it said!
It seems there is no time for anything, and when I do get time it gets snatched away by something else. My morning meeting was canceled because my poor son had a bullying incident at school, my other son has an ear infection for the 20th time, or my husband played chicken with another Daddy in the Starbucks drive-thru line and ended up without a bumper. Yes, you read that right.
I have had to learn the skill of stealing time for myself whenever I can. From 5 a.m. – 6 a.m. in the morning, at nap, and on weekends when I can send them all to the park. That is a skill that all moms have to master. We are all “time-stealers.”
